Council House 2, Melbourne
This permanent work involves a pair of water vortex chambers producing both a clockwise and anticlockwise spinning vortex, and illuminating a connection between Melbourne City Council’s green building “CH2” and the history of alternative science.
The dynamic of the work comes from the spinning twin water vortices, the forms of the two 60 litre hand blown glass vessels, the stainless steel framework, and the details of the timber bench.
The twin chambers draw an analogy to the human respiratory system, positively reinforcing the idea of CH2 as a living system.
The piece also refers to ‘the experiment’; to include both the artwork and the CH2 project in a process of exploration and invention, and to the interweaving of the concepts nature and culture.
